Andrew & John.
I wasn’t nervous for my wedding day but extremely excited. We stayed at the Urban Village hotel in Edinburgh for the weekend , Saturday to Monday, our wedding day being on the Sunday. It was such a great idea to stay for more than one night as we could truly relax and make the most of a day which was sure to go by in a flash. From start to finish the Events staff were on the ball and everything went perfectly.
I must admit I don’t remember much as it all seemed to go by in a flash, however, I think my favourite part of the day was the ceremony. As soon as we got engaged I knew that this was the most significant part for me, the rest was just an added bonus! I was extremely particular about what mood I wanted during the ceremony (low lighting, candle light, minimalist décor) as I wanted all the focus to be on the words which me and my wife were saying to each other. We wrote our own vows and had friends and family read out poems which we had written or they had written themselves. Our celebrant was also my cousin who wrote the whole ceremony from scratch and was filled with original moments and laughs which kept in with the very personal theme.
It was such a light-hearted day, everyone was happy and smiling and most importantly no one was stressed! Looking back there isn’t one thing that I would change about that day, other than being able to slow things down a little!
We viewed a few venues first of all before The Village Hotel, but as soon as we checked it out, we instantly fell in love with it. We knew this was the place for us and we were made to feel so welcome and comfortable with our wedding planner, Toni Coleman.
We decided to have a small ceremony but a little bit more of a party at night. We invited our close friends and family, those who we knew would make our day even more special than it already would be and enjoy the day and night for what is what and what we were celebrating.
I remember the lead up to the wedding was approximately 13 months and it was a great time leading up. We both enjoyed organising everything about it, from the wedding dresses, rainbow cake, photo booth and more. It was all planned how we wanted it.
On the weekend of the wedding, Kristie and I along with our family and bridal party stayed the night before the wedding day and then as most coupe do before the wedding night went our seperate ways until we met again for the best part on the wedding day.
On the morning of the wedding I remember feeling very calm…to calm if I’m honest and very relaxed but so excited. I felt like the morning went so fast and before I knew it I was putting my dress on and getting ready to leave the hotel room. I was walking down the aisle first and I had had no tears all morning but as soon as I approached the door of the beautifully decorated ceremony room, the tears built up and couldn’t be stopped. I felt so overwhelmed by the moment and seeing all my friends and family who cared and supported what kristie and I were doing. I had to wait another couple of minutes before Kristie came down the aisle, which felt like hours as I was so nervous. But as soon as her song came on and I seen her walking down the aisle I was breathless and my tears started again at how beautiful my wife to be looked. From that moment I felt like I was living a dream and I couldn’t stop smiling. From the ceremony to the photos to the meal and dancing, it all went too fast, but I would not fault it for a second, it was perfection.
I’ll never forget the best day of my life which was marrying my best friend, my now wife Kristie. I would love to it all over again and again with Kristie as from the start it was perfect and nothing will ever change that.
