Laura & Rachel's Wedding

at Cheshire Woodland Weddings

Laura and I tell everyone we met at university, but the truth is we actually met on the train on the first day. It was the incredibly overcrowded 08:02 to Clitheroe train where we found ourselves nose-to-nose in a doorway. I remember clearly seeing Laura stood inches from me, long blonde hair in a delicate plait, and wondering if I should tell her that she had a bobby pin sticking out. I decided against it but as we approached Salford Crescent station and disembarked together I realised the universe was trying to get me to speak to this girl.

To my amazement we ended up in the same tutor group at Salford University where we both studied nursing and became best friends. The two of us were inseparable but it wasn’t until two years in that, while studying for an exam, we kissed and never looked back.

After qualifying we both got jobs in the local A&E department where we thrived under the pressure and loved working as a team in a high stakes environment. On a routine day in April 2018 we worked tirelessly to save the life of a man in his fifties who had never had a day off sick in his life. Despite our best efforts he died in front of us and that evening Laura proposed, saying she didn’t want to waste any more time because none of us truly know how long we have left.

Choosing a wedding venue was more difficult than we imagined – we visited several places but couldn’t find one that could fit our needs and more importantly somewhere that would let us bring our dog, Summer. It was important to both of us for Summer to be present for the day as we consider her to be a member of the family. When we discovered Cheshire Woodland Weddings we were amazed at how accommodating they were – they let us plan out our dream wedding and helped us achieve every one of our aspirations. Ebony the wedding co-ordinator was great and got excited along with us, even helping to orchestrate the ceremony to allow Summer to walk Laura down the aisle!

When planning our wedding I told Laura that whenever I have been to a wedding before I have experienced two emotions; hunger and boredom. I was determined not to let our guests feel the same way so we opted for an afternoon tea as our wedding breakfast so that guests could start snacking the moment we sat down, and Cheshire Woodland Weddings had boredom covered! Included in our package was unlimited use of all the facilities including Segway, archery, mini golf, rifle shooting and human foosball. I’m sure it’s a wedding our guests will never forget. We managed to get a picture of us both with all nine (nine!) bridesmaids all on Segways and even played a game of human foosball in our wedding dresses.

The whole day was captured by our lovely photographer Charlotte who made us laugh all day and took beautiful photographs to try to do justice to the astounding venue. We really wanted the whole day to feel informal and fun, and it definitely met those expectations. Even six months on I still get comments from guests about how lovely the venue was, and what a good time was had by all.

I wish we could do the whole day again, but I don’t think I could ever get it that perfect a second time around! We will always be grateful to the team at Cheshire Woodland Weddings for giving us our dream day, and we plan to renew our vows there in ten years’ time!
