Your Wedding, Your Day, Your Way.
Your wedding should be as unique as you are!
A humanist wedding in Scotland gives you absolute freedom and complete personalisation from the location to the 'I do!'
Susan and Gerrie Douglas-Scott are two of Scotland's most in-demand Authorised Humanist Celebrants and have conducted 100s of legal humanist weddings across Scotland.
Whether it is Gerrie or Susan who is your celebrant, you can relax knowing that your ceremony will be everything you have hoped for.
Working closely with each couple, very ceremony is packed full of personality, love, smiles and a few laughs and tears, all in the right place!
IT'S ALL ABOUT YOU TWO
From Loch Lomond to Ayr to Glasgow and Galloway and beyond – Celebrating love and life in Scotland is the most amazing and rewarding ‘work’ that I have ever done. I love going abroad too to conduct personal weddings (though they may be after the legal paperwork was completed).
I’ve been a Celebrant for over 12 years and conducted many hundreds of ceremonies. Over the years I have been in front of around 250,000 people - it's a lot when you add it up!
I speak advanced (nearly fluent) Spanish and passable French and Italian which comes in handy in ceremonies quite often.
In the past I managed to escape working at the Scottish Executive where I advised the Health Minister on ‘involving people’.
I am now a consultant on the same topic, which means I can have a posh freelance job title (lol) and be flexible to do what I really want to do – celebrate life and love!
I’ve been a celebrant since 2007 and I love it! I started off offering families support with their loved ones' funerals, couples with celebrations of commitment and naming ceremonies.
In 2010 I had the great joy of conducting my first legal marriage ceremony. I am now so excited about the being able to marry all people. I conducted one of the first lesbian weddings a few minutes after midnight when Scottish equal marriage became legal on 31st December 2014! I married my good friends Chris and Jooles shortly after Gerrie and I were married then Gerrie married Aynsleigh and Chloe. It was a momentous occasion and I can highly recommend getting married! its fantastic!
I am self-employed and all my work involves people at its centre. My life’s career focuses on equality, disability, health and social care. For me this complements my work as a celebrant, really helping me understand people from their own life experiences.
I live in Glasgow and travel between here, through Ayrshire to Dumfries and Galloway. On occasion I travel all over Scotland so get to see many parts of our beautiful country. I spend a couple of days every month in Scotland’s national book town Wigtown, where I am co-owner of ReadingLasses Bookshop and café.
In the rest of my life I am also busy but above all friends and family are important to me. My partner Gerrie and I have been together for over 17 years and we have seen our five children grow in to wonderful young people – beautiful too but I’m a biased mother!

G Wedding Directory would like to thank Lee & Steven for allowing us to publish their story.
Andrew & John.
Lee and Steven were together for just over a year when Lee went down on one knee and proposed to Steven at The Moulin Rouge in Paris. Straight away, they started to plan their wedding day, with one of the first agreements being that it was to be a Humanist Ceremony. After making enquiries about available celebrants they received a few responses but it was the email from Gerrie Douglas-Scott that stood out.
"The tone of Gerrie's email and the words just immediately struck a chord with us and we thought she's the one. Shortly after, we arranged a visit to meet and chat about our ceremony. On arriving, a rainbow appeared above Gerrie's home and we took that as a good sign. " Lee McHugh
Gerrie offered the couple a lot of guidance and resources when preparing the structure and wording of their ceremony.
"Gerrie helped us from start to finish with writing our ceremony and vows, she was a great support. This really paid off on the day. Our friends and family made numerous comments about how they laughed, how they cried, and enjoyed the whole ceremony. It really set the best tone for the whole day, it was perfect." Steven Crawford
When considering a wedding date, the venue search began. After doing a lot of online research, they decided they should really visit some venues - first on the list was The Vu, nestled in the Bathgate HIlls. An hour after arriving, the wedding date was set and the venue booked.
"During our visit to the venue, we were shown over to the WaterLily suite which is situated on the reservoir. We knew instantly that this was the place for us, a stunning venue with beautiful views. The staff went above and beyond on the day, nothing was too much trouble - even doing everything they could to rectify an issue with the late delivery of the wedding cake." Lee
Keen to tie the engagement and wedding together, the couple introduced a Moulin Rouge theme to the day. This was achieved by the tall vases with ostrich feathers and the bespoke Moulin Rouge windmill table plan with the guests names were printed on the movable sails.
"We had such an amazing day, from start to finish. The weather was sunny, not a guarantee in Scotland! We really couldn't have wished for a better day." Lee and Steven
"We were very lucky to be able to book Steven Withers from Belvedere Images to photograph our day. He was able to capture the whole essence of our day and how much fun we had. Also, as the recommended photographer for the venue, he made the most of our surroundings" Steven
Two years after their engagement, Steven and Lee got married in front of their family and friends. Following the wedding, the couple enjoyed a nice relaxing time at Piperdam and are now in the process of planning their honeymoon to Australia this Christmas.
