As a film buff I loved the idea of an old Hollywood vibe for the day. With this in mind we looked for various venues that would deliver that feeling of opulence and glamour for our wedding ceremony and found the Epstein Theatre after a quick search on Liverpool Council’s website.
After our first visit to the Epstein we knew that he had to get married there. The theatre is stunning and the team were so excited as at the time we were only the second couple to book a wedding there.
The planning process was a complete breeze for us as thankfully we were very decisive and have complimentary tastes. Our day was designed entirely by us (with a little help from Pinterest). Everything from the invitations to the table plan to the exact rose (Avalanche FYI) we wore as a buttonhole came from us.
Thankfully Adam is a genius when it comes to create digital design and I had a very specific vision although we both jokingly acknowledged this as OCD during our wedding speeches.
When it came to deciding upon on our outfits we knew that in keeping with the old Hollywood vibe that we wanted the wedding to be classic and timeless so only Tuxedos would do. However we didn’t want to wear the same thing. We wanted to keep a sense of our own identities whilst still coordinating as a couple so we decided that I would wear a black Tuxedo and Adam would wear an off-white Tuxedo jacket. We both wore bow ties, however Adam’s was velvet and slightly bigger to add texture and contrast against mine which was satin. We had two Best Men (one each) and Adam’s dad who all wore the same black suit with black ties and we coordinated with matching buttonholes (the Avalanche rose).
As both the Epstein and Palm House are stunningly unique venues we didn’t need to do a lot to them in terms of decorations. For the Epstein we hired simple fairy lights to dress the backdrop to the stage and printed our own posters to put in place of the usual propaganda for upcoming shows. Heidi is the wedding coordinator for the Epstein and really delivered exactly what we wanted.
At the Palm House we kept all our floral arrangements white with green to compliment the surroundings of the Palm House. Angela Adlard from Flourish (www.angelaadlardfloristry.co.uk) did an incredible job of bringing our vision to life.
In the run-up to the wedding we were constantly getting asked if we were going to enter the wedding service together or separately. A detail we kept secret until the day. We decided that we wouldn’t spend the night before the wedding together and that the first time we would see each other would be during the ceremony. To facilitate this, Heidi arranged for us to have separate dressing rooms backstage at the Epstein for us and our Mums. So our guests arrived and were shown to their seats in theatre completely unaware of how we would enter. We both walked with our Mums (I went first) and as the acoustic version of Sam Smith’s “Latch” played I took my first steps and when I got to the stage Adam followed with his Mum.
After the ceremony we had some of our wedding portraits done by the incredibly talented Damian Brandon (www.dsbcreative.com) and celebrated with our friends and family. We then went on to the Palm House not before a quick stop at the Baltic Triangle in Liverpool for some more photos. We were introduced to Damian via a friend and as soon as we seen his portfolio we knew that he was the only one that could shoot our wedding. His creative, modern style was perfect for what we wanted.
At the Palm House we were greeted by Rachel from the Yacht Club Catering (www.yachtclubliverpool.co.uk) who firstly gave us a drink and then showed us the main seating area to check that we were happy with it before giving us an overview of the running order for the rest of the day. Along with Laura from the Palm House, they both made us and our guests feel like royalty. Nothing was ever too much and no detail was overlooked.
The whole day flew by and before we knew it we were greeting evening guests and being called to cut our wedding cake. After cutting the cake we went straight into our first dance “1+1” by Beyonce before dancing the night away. The wedding reception finished at 12pm at the Palm House and by 12:30am we were in a taxi on our way to Manchester Airport for our Honeymoon!
Before our wedding a lot of people said to us “things will go wrong on the day but it doesn’t matter” but I can honestly say that it was the perfect day. Everything that we organised went to plan and both venues did an incredible job of exceeding all of our expectations.
We’re so thankful to everyone who came and travelled from around the world to celebrate with us. We wish we could do it all again.
